 Abstract

This article proposes an intelligent distribution transformer topology. The proposed system includes a transformer and a fractionally rated power converter, which is placed on the low-voltage side. The power converter synthesizes the voltage to maintain the load voltage and improve the power quality. The proposed system does not require any additional bulky transformers or huge battery energy storage. The series-connected structure considerably reduces the power rating of the power converter, resulting in low costs. The proposed system is more efficient and reliable than existing solid-state transformers. In this article, the configuration and control strategies of the proposed system are described. The verification results, including the simulations and experiments, prove that the voltage can be maintained even under load fluctuations.
